Given these times, it is hardly surprising that many C-suite executives, including their team and family members, are experiencing significant stress and psychological discomfort. And yet it is critical that, at such moments, senior leaders remain focused and as effective as possible – for a multitude of reasons that need no explanation. With social isolation so prevalent, check in with your team (and others) more than normal. People will appreciate the contact and understand that you are not trying to micromanage them.
Taking action is a key stress reliever. Keep all concerned focused on deliverables.
Take one day at a time. It is patently clear that current events are moving so quickly that too much forward planning is almost impossible.
And whenever you can, eliminate every toxic business relationship you have – both inside and outside of your company. At the moment, you’ve got more than enough on your plate. And while you are at it, if, by chance, you are bringing new people into your business, go to whatever reasonable lengths necessary to ensure no one gets into your company who is just “putting rocks in your back-pack.”
And finally, BREATHE – and make sure that you spend some small part of your day ensuring that your EXHALE is LONGER THAN YOUR INHALE. It may sound a tad silly – but it works to relieve some of the tension.
