During his career, Dennis Weaver appeared in hundreds of TV shows and movies. Weaver was also a keen environmentalist who was concerned that we were destroying our Earth rapidly. I suspect he is right. Consider the following:
Because of pesticide use, our honeybee population is collapsing at alarming speed. Yet, in North America alone, honeybees are our sole source for more than 130 types of fruits and vegetables. In Europe, 84% of 264 different crops grown and 4,000 plant varieties are completely dependent on bee pollination.
Believe it or not, humans managed to shoot, trap and poison 5 billion Passenger Pigeons in North America, resulting in their entire extinction by 1914.
At least 14 million tons of plastic goes into our oceans every year. And guess what? Tiny plastic particles are now showing up in our drinking water. Joy!
Divers have found more than 25,000 barrels of DDT dumped illegally into the ocean off Catalina Island. And they are leaking. DDT is a carcinogen for humans.
Now, why am I talking about this when the Quote of the Month is typically all about the business world. Simple. If we keep going, none of us will have a business.
The above is just a fraction of the damage we are doing to this planet. And you are not powerless to help. Please remember the words of Sydney Smith, an English writer who lived about 200 years ago….”It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little”. For the survival of our businesses, we all need to do something to help reverse the environmental mess we are creating.
